John Gordon Sinclair
Biography
John Gordon Sinclair is a Scottish actor who began as an apprentice electrician in his native Glasgow before joining the city's Youth Theatre at 15. That led to a run of films for director Bill Forsyth, most famously Gregory's Girl (1980), in which he played Gregory, a role he took up again in Gregory's Two Girls (1999). He also appeared in Forsyth's Local Hero (1983), and his other screen credits include Britannia Hospital (1982), The Girl in the Picture (1985), Erik the Viking (1989), World War Z (2013) and Nico, 1988 (2018). On stage he won a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1995 for his musical performance in She Loves Me. His television work ranges from Traces to the sitcom An Actor's Life For Me, and he has done voice work for Rubbadubbers and Fetch the Vet. He has also written novels, beginning with Seventy Times Seven in 2012.

Sinclair took the professional name John Gordon Sinclair because a Gordon Sinclair was already registered with the Equity trade union.
Early training
Sinclair was 15 when he visited Glasgow's Youth Theatre one night and met Robert Buchanan, who shared his taste for the Canadian progressive rock group Rush, and he joined.
Beyond film
Sinclair appeared on the 1982 Scottish squad's World Cup song "We Have a Dream", a UK number 5 hit. On the track he recounted a dream he had about Scottish football doing well.
