Plot summary
Ronnie, Wal, Andy and Vic are unemployed and bored teenagers in Glasgow. Ronnie has noticed that stainless steel sinks are worth money, and he works out a scheme to steal sinks from a warehouse and sell them. Dressing as women is part of the plan, and so is a strong tranquilizer, the stop-motion potion, given to the driver of a Morton's Rolls bread van.

- For the American release, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer re-dubbed the soundtrack with more mainstream Edinburgh accents, and the re-dub cost more than the entire budget of the film itself.
- Bill Forsyth could not afford professional actors for his first film, so he asked teenagers at a Glasgow community center to appear for no pay, promising them a percentage of any profits instead.
- A restored 2009 DVD release of the film by 2 Entertain generated controversy because it used the re-dubbed soundtrack, which impinged on the character of the film and the delivery of the dialogue.
