Joe Cocker
Biography
Joe Cocker was an English singer from Sheffield with a gritty, bluesy voice and expressive stage movements. He broke through in 1968 with his debut album's title track, a rearrangement of the Beatles' With a Little Help from My Friends, which reached number one in the UK. He performed at Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, and the Mad Dogs and Englishmen live album followed a 1970 US tour. He reached number five in the US with You Are So Beautiful, a song that became his signature, and won a 1983 Grammy for the duet Up Where We Belong with Jennifer Warnes. He released 22 studio albums, was nominated for a Brit Award in 1993, received an OBE in 2007, and was the subject of Joe Cocker: Mad Dog with Soul (2017). He also appeared at the Party at the Palace (2002).
