Jo Ann Sayers
Biography
Jo Ann Sayers was an American actress who worked on Broadway and in Hollywood films, with a screen career that ran from the 1930s into the 1950s. Born in Seattle in 1918, she participated in dances and school plays as a child, studied piano and violin, and took drama classes at the University of Washington while enrolled in pre-law. After a talent scout spotted her in a student production, she was invited to Hollywood for a screen test, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer offered her a contract. Her first credited screen part came in 1938. In 1940 she was chosen for the title role in My Sister Eileen, a Broadway production that opened on December 26, 1940, with Shirley Booth as her opposite. Sayers died in 2011.
