Jane Hylton
Biography
Jane Hylton was an English actress whose roughly 30 screen credits were concentrated in the 1940s and 1950s, after which she worked mainly in television. Born Gwen Clark in London in 1927, she was spotted in her teens and trained by the Rank Organisation's Company of Youth. Her first film was A Girl in a Million, followed by small parts for Gainsborough and Ealing, a bigger role as a convict's mistress in My Brother's Keeper, and one of the Huggett daughters in Here Come the Huggetts. She had the part of Molly Reed in Passport to Pimlico (1949) and appeared in It Always Rains on Sunday (1947). Early 1950s leads gave way to B films, except for a prominent role in Circus of Horrors (1960). On television she played Guinevere in The Adventures of Sir Lancelot and Beryl Fisher in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Film historians Steve Chibnall and Brian McFarlane praised her intensity and her working-class portraits.
