Jane Frazee

Biography

The actress, singer and dancer Jane Frazee, born in Duluth, began her career in vaudeville, forming a singing act with her older sister Ruth when she was six. The partnership ended in 1940, the year she took a leading part in the Republic Pictures feature Melody and Moonlight. Universal Pictures signed her soon afterward and featured her in Buck Privates (1941), the Abbott and Costello comedy, and her work there led to leading-lady roles in the studio's B musicals, often opposite Robert Paige. She returned to Republic for further musicals and also made budget features for Columbia. After World War II she found steady work at Monogram and Lippert Pictures and later moved into westerns and television, including an episode of Adventures of Superman in 1953. She finished her screen career unbilled in Warner Brothers' Joe McDoakes comedy shorts with George O'Hanlon, a series that lapsed in 1956. She died in 1985.
