Jacqueline Brookes
Biography
Jacqueline Brookes was an American actress of film, television and stage who worked largely in New York theater. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, she studied at the University of Iowa and trained in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art on a Fulbright Scholarship. During the 1960s she acted at San Diego's Old Globe Theater in its Shakespeare Festival and played leads such as Rosalind, Katherine and Beatrice in other regional productions. On Broadway her credits included The Cherry Orchard, The Duchess of Malfi and A Moon for the Misbegotten, and in 1980 she originated Norma Henshaw in The Diviners. In 1955 she received a Theatre World Award for The Cretan Woman, and in 1963 an Obie Award for her leading performance in Six Characters in Search of an Author. Her films included Ghost Story (1981), The Entity (1982), The Good Son (1993) and Losing Isaiah (1995). She died in 2013.
