Henry Kendall
Biography
Henry Kendall was an English stage and film actor, theater director and revue performer who was born in London in 1897 and died in 1962. In 1914 he made his stage debut as a walk-on in Tommy Atkins at the Lyceum Theatre, then joined the Old Vic company for Shakespeare repertory. His early career was interrupted by the First World War, and after resuming in 1919 he worked mainly in the West End, with a Broadway excursion, and directed more than 20 productions. Though dismissive of his screen work, he appeared in over 40 films, including Alfred Hitchcock's Rich and Strange (1931), The Amazing Quest of Ernest Bliss (1936) and The Shadow of the Cat (1961). In revue he appeared alongside Hermione Gingold in the Sweet and Low revues, and his autobiography was published in 1960.
