Harold Vermilyea

Harold Vermilyea was an American actor with a prolific Broadway career of 32 plays. Born on October 10, 1889, in Manhattan, his first stage role came in 1914 in The Lion and the Mouse. His subsequent credits included It Pays to Advertise and a revival of Get-Rich-Quick Wallingford. He served in France with the Army Ambulance Service during World War I. After the war he returned to Broadway for 29 more productions. In the 1930s he had substantial radio roles, supporting Maude Adams in a series and leading on the Rudy Vallee Show. During World War II he was director of the American Theatre Wing's Victory Players. In the post-war years he turned to motion pictures, making notable appearances in several post-war films, especially film noirs, and later moved into television. He died in 1958.
