Plot summary
Traigon is a wizard who must hand his firstborn child to the god Caligara or lose his powers. His wife bears twin daughters, Mara and Mira, and will not say which of the two came first. She flees with the babies and leaves them with a peasant who brings them up as warrior boys; Traigon wounds her, and she answers with a spear thrust that banishes him for twenty years. A wandering wizard named Krona grants the girls magical and martial skills. When Traigon comes back and hunts his grown daughters again, they find allies: Pando, a satyr, Erlick, a young barbarian, and Baldar, a Viking.

- The Mexican film vault on the studio lot blew up during the shoot; Hill says the Mexican crew, who "worked their hearts out", told him this production had the most problems of any movie they had ever been on.
- Jack Hill wrote the part of the satyr Pando for Sid Haig, who had appeared in many of his films, but Roger Corman would not pay the actor's fee, so another person played the role.
- Hill said Corman never delivered the budget he promised for the Mexican shoot, forcing compromises on special effects and music, while production was plagued by rain, fire and low budget.
- Corman lined up the shoot in the Philippines, then Portugal, then Italy, before telling Hill two weeks before filming that he had a better deal in Mexico, where the film was shot.
- The film reused James Horner's musical score from Battle Beyond the Stars (1980), as many New World Pictures films of the time did.
