Gabriel LaBelle
Biography
Gabriel LaBelle is a Canadian actor who began performing in musicals at a summer camp at age eight and made his screen debut in a 2013 guest role on the Canadian series Motive. Early credits include the indie horror film Dead Shack (2017) and the action movie The Predator (2018). His breakthrough came as Sammy Fabelman, the aspiring filmmaker in Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans (2022), a part he won over roughly 2,000 other contenders. The performance drew critical acclaim, the Critics' Choice Award for Best Young Performer and a National Board of Review breakthrough award, and the cast earned a Screen Actors Guild ensemble nomination. He later joined the Showtime drama American Gigolo and, in 2024, appeared in the coming-of-age comedy Snack Shack (2024) and played producer Lorne Michaels in Saturday Night (2024), earning a Golden Globe nomination.

Big break
LaBelle won the lead role of Sammy Fabelman in The Fabelmans after auditioning among 2,000 other contenders, and was initially not cast until a virtual callback three months later where he won the part.
First role
LaBelle first became interested in acting when he was 8, at a summer camp where he played roles in its musicals, among them Footloose, Shrek the Musical and Aladdin.
A change of course
In early 2020, LaBelle removed his social media accounts. He explained that this helped him become a better actor, since he could stay focused, creative and confident without chasing approval online.
Behind the camera
Once filming on The Fabelmans wrapped, LaBelle relocated to Los Angeles to chase more projects in film, television and theater as an actor, and he also intends to direct at some point.
