Fredro Starr
Biography
An American rapper and actor, Fredro Starr formed the hardcore group Onyx, which Jam Master Jay signed to his JMJ Records label. Onyx released three top selling albums, and as part of the group he was nominated for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop New Artist at the 1994 American Music Awards and won Best Rap Album at the 1994 Soul Train Music Awards. Encouraged by his manager to act, he made his screen debut in the HBO film Strapped and was nominated for a CableACE Award in the Best Supporting Actor category. He went on to star in Spike Lee's Clockers and Abel Ferrara's The Addiction, and took his first leading role in Sunset Park. He also appeared in Save the Last Dance and performed its theme song, Shining Through, with Jill Scott. On television, he had a regular role on Moesha and appeared in The Wire, and he co-hosted the dance competition show Dance 360.

First role
Fredro Starr's manager, Jeff Harris, urged him to give acting a try. He started reading for parts and was chosen right away to co-star in a 1992 television pilot named B Boys, but the project was dropped soon after.
First role
Less than a year after that pilot fell apart, Starr landed his first screen role as Bamboo in Forest Whitaker's HBO film Strapped, a part that brought him a CableACE Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Starr moved into his first leading film role as Shorty in Sunset Park, and on that same film he also co-wrote and performed the title track, "Thangz Changed".
