Frank Lovejoy
Biography
Frank Lovejoy was an American actor who worked in radio, film, and television. He was born in the Bronx and grew up in New Jersey, and he built a career as a radio performer before moving into movies. On radio he played Broadway Harry on Gay Nineties Revue, was heard on Gang Busters, and narrated the first season of This Is Your FBI; in 1940 he took the title role in the syndicated series The Blue Beetle, and in the early 1950s he starred in the newspaper drama Night Beat. On screen he was usually a supporting player, often cast as an ordinary man in extraordinary circumstances. His films included The Sound of Fury (1950), I Was a Communist for the FBI (1951), The Hitch-Hiker (1953) for director Ida Lupino, Beachhead (1954), and Strategic Air Command (1955). He also starred in the television series Man Against Crime and Meet McGraw. He died in 1962.
