Elvis Costello
Biography
Elvis Costello is the English singer, songwriter and record producer who learned his craft in folk clubs and pub rock bands before punk took hold in England, adopting his stage name in 1977. His debut album, My Aim Is True, came out that year, and with his backing band the Attractions he made Armed Forces (1979), a record that helped define new wave. His style has since taken in R&B, country, jazz and classical music, and he has recorded album-length collaborations with the Brodsky Quartet, Allen Toussaint and the Roots, as well as writing songs with Paul McCartney and Burt Bacharach. Among his best-known recordings is his 1979 version of (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding. He performed at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid (1985), and between 2008 and 2010 he hosted the television program Spectacle: Elvis Costello with... His awards include two Grammys and two Ivor Novello prizes.
