Edwin Hodgeman

Edwin Hodgeman is an Australian actor best known as Dr Dealgood in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), the third film in the Mad Max series. He was born in Alberton, an Adelaide suburb, in 1935, and trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, finishing with the school's first group in 1960. He began performing in the 1950s with guidance from Adelaide theater director Colin Ballantyne, then worked in Canada with the Stratford Ontario Company, and came back to Adelaide in 1965 to act with the new South Australian Theatre Company. George Ogilvie, its first artistic director, made him a leading stage performer from 1969 in Shakespeare, musical theater, and cabaret. He also created the part of Ahmed in Jim Sharman's Sydney staging of Norm and Ahmed in 1968. Other screen appearances include The Survivor (1981) and Shine (1996). In 2006 he received an Adelaide Critics Circle lifetime achievement honor.
