Edward Rigby
Biography
Edward Rigby, born Edward Coke, was a British character actor who made his stage debut in 1900 at Fulham's Grand Theatre. He also later toured Australia, the United States, and Canada. His first screen role came in the 1910 silent film The Blue Bird, and he went on to appear in more than 150 films between 1933 and 1951. Born in Ashford, Kent, England, and educated at Haileybury and Wye Agricultural College, he then served in World War I with the Artists' Rifles and the Royal Field Artillery, and received the Military Cross for gallantry. He died in 1951. He used his mother's maiden name, Rigby, for his professional work.
