John Forbes-Robertson

Biography

John Forbes-Robertson was a British actor who moved from stage work to film and television. Born in Worthing, Sussex, he began at the Intimate Theatre in Palmers Green and spent the 1950s and 1960s appearing mostly in small film and TV parts. His early film roles included The Battle of the River Plate (1956), The Spy with a Cold Nose (1966), and Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965). For Hammer he played the Man in Black in The Vampire Lovers (1970) and Dracula in The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974), becoming the only actor besides Christopher Lee to portray that character for the studio. His other film appearances included The Vault of Horror (1973), Nicholas and Alexandra (1971), Venom (1981), and Lifeforce (1985). On television he played Henry Possett in The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin (1976). His last screen appearance came in the 2008 documentary The Legend of Hammer: Vampires, directed by Don Fearney.
