Doug McClure

Biography

Doug McClure, an American actor, worked in film and television from the 1950s to the 1990s. Born in Glendale, California, he began appearing in films such as The Enemy Below (1957) and Gidget (1959) before taking the role of Trampas on The Virginian in 1962. He played that cowboy for the series' entire run through 1971 and became famous for it. He later starred as Mayor Kyle Applegate on Out of This World from 1987 to 1991 and appeared in low-budget science fiction movies including The Land That Time Forgot (1974), At the Earth's Core (1976), The People That Time Forgot (1977), and Warlords of Atlantis (1978). Other credits included The Unforgiven (1960), Shenandoah (1965), and the 1994 remake of Maverick. In 1994 he received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star for television.
