Doris Merrick
Biography
Doris Merrick was an American film actress and model who began her career as a singer. Born in Chicago in 1919, she sang with her sisters before NBC engaged her as a soloist, and she later worked as a model. Warner Bros. signed her to a contract in 1941 and first billed her as Beth Drake, a name she changed to Doris Merrick shortly afterward. After an uncredited appearance in Yankee Doodle Dandy (1941), she made her starring debut in Girl Trouble. Not every part brought her a credit, but she had a notable supporting role opposite Laurel and Hardy in the comedy The Big Noise (1944). During the Second World War she was also featured in Yank, the Army Weekly, and she stopped acting professionally in 1955.
