Biography

David McGillivray is a British screenwriter, actor, producer, playwright and critic who began as a reviewer for Monthly Film Bulletin and wrote his first script, Albert's Follies, for Ray Selfe in 1973; it reached cinemas as White Cargo (1973). He became known for horror scripts, writing twice for Norman J. Warren, on Satan's Slave (1976) and Terror (1979), and four times for Pete Walker, including Frightmare (1974), House of Whipcord, House of Mortal Sin and Schizo. Reviews were often hostile, though House of Whipcord drew some praise. He also wrote British sex comedies such as The Hot Girls and I'm Not Feeling Myself Tonight, and later moved into theater, co-writing a long-running series of Farndale Avenue farces, and wrote for Julian Clary. He wrote the book Doing Rude Things and received a lifetime achievement award in 2023.
