Corinne Calvet
Biography
Corinne Calvet was a French actress whose film career was based largely in Hollywood. Born in Paris in 1925, she studied criminal law at the Sorbonne before a circle of artists in Paris prompted her to try acting, and she trained at Charles Dullin's school and L'Ecole du Cinema. She began in French radio, stage plays, and movies in the 1940s, then signed with Paramount and took a role in Rope of Sand (1949) opposite Burt Lancaster and Paul Henreid. Fox gave her star billing in When Willie Comes Marching Home (1950), and she later appeared in On the Riviera (1951) with Danny Kaye, Sailor Beware (1952) with Martin and Lewis, What Price Glory (1952), and The Far Country (1954) with James Stewart. Her later credits included Plunderers of Painted Flats (1959), Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man (1962), and She's Dressed to Kill (1979). She died in 2001.

Early training
While she was studying law, Calvet was a regular at the Deux Magots café, where she knew Jean-Paul Sartre, Jean Cocteau and Jean Marais. Marais told her to enroll at Charles Dullin's acting school.
A role that slipped away
Paramount signed Calvet in February 1947 for a Frenchwoman role in Sealed Verdict, but decided she was too young and cast Florence Marly instead that August.
Languages
Calvet had an uncredited part in the 1945 film Blind Desire, and she also provided the French voice for Rita Hayworth in dubbed American movies.
Behind the award
Fox borrowed Calvet to be Danny Kaye's leading lady in On the Riviera (1951). For that role the Harvard Lampoon gave her a Roscoe, calling it one of 1951's worst film performances.
A change of course
Calvet trained at the Arica Institute, part of the Human Potential Movement, and later worked as a hypnotherapist who helped clients return to their past lives.
