Plot summary
Aurora and her parents live in New York City. A firefly draws her to a neighbor in unit 5B, and one night she follows him into Chinatown, where she watches him kill what looks like a dragon, in truth a gang hidden inside a dragon dance puppet. She warns her mother and father against stepping on her bedroom floor, saying that doing so will bring out the monster under her bed. That night she hides beneath her blanket while they are attacked, and wakes alone in a torn-apart bedroom. Aurora steals an offering plate from a church and offers the money to the neighbor, a hitman, to kill the monster. Two more hitmen then arrive at the apartment.

- Dust Bunny was granted an interim agreement to keep filming in Budapest during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, because the production was not part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
- Location scout Marci Bálint chose the refurbished Hungarian Treasury Building as the film's centrepiece, and its Art Nouveau interior, with a staircase spiralling around an ornate elevator, set the tone for the apartment building where most of the story takes place.
- Bryan Fuller revealed in 2025 that Dust Bunny's story was originally devised as an episode of the 2020 revival of Amazing Stories.
- The Dust Bunny team considered filming in a European zoo, but decided against it because the conditions for the animals were not sufficient for them to feel comfortable filming there.
