  1. A change of course

Musburger spent the 1959 season as an umpire in the Class-D Midwest League. He called games involving Tim McCarver later that season, though a story that he worked McCarver's professional debut is apocryphal.

  2. A change of course

Musburger started out as a sportswriter at the Chicago American, a newspaper that no longer exists. Warren Brown, himself a sportswriter, served as his editor there.

  3. First role

Musburger started at CBS Sports in late 1973 doing play-by-play for regular season NFL games, paired with Tommy Mason or Bart Starr on color commentary.
