Bill Kerr
Biography
Bill Kerr was an actor, comedian and vaudevillian who worked in Australia and Britain and grew up in New South Wales after being born in Cape Town. He worked in ABC radio from 1932 and made his screen debut in Harmony Row (1933). After the Second World War he moved to Britain, where he became known for comedy, especially as a regular on the radio series Hancock's Half Hour from 1954 to 1959. He also appeared in The Wrong Arm of the Law (1963) and took stage roles in Britain, including Damn Yankees and Play It Again, Sam. Returning to Australia in 1979, he built a second career as a character actor, appearing in Peter Weir's Gallipoli (1981) and The Year of Living Dangerously (1982), both with Mel Gibson, as well as The Pirate Movie (1982), The Coca-Cola Kid (1985) and The Lighthorsemen (1987). He died in 2014.

Kerr's first screen appearance came in Harmony Row (1933), playing a juvenile delinquent with a feisty performance alongside George Wallace, an Australian vaudeville comedian.
Beyond film
Kerr took the role of the Devil in disguise as Mr Applegate in the first West End staging of Damn Yankees, which Bob Fosse directed and which opened in March 1957.

In The Melting Pot, a 1975 sitcom by Spike Milligan and Neil Shand, Kerr played Bluey Notts, an Australian bookie's clerk and a crude racialist. The BBC canceled the show after broadcasting just one episode.
