Barbara Walters was an American broadcast journalist and a television host whose career ran from 1951 until she retired in 2014. Born in Boston, she started at NBC's New York flagship station in 1953, producing the children's program Ask the Camera, and moved to the Today show, where she became its first female co-host in 1974. She then broke ground as the first American woman to co-anchor a network evening newscast, alongside Harry Reasoner on the ABC Evening News, and from 1979 to 2004 served as a correspondent and co-host of the news magazine 20/20. She created the daytime talk show The View, which she appeared on from 1997 to 2014, and hosted specials interviewing presidents, world leaders and celebrities. The Television Hall of Fame inducted her in 1989, and she won Daytime Emmy Awards, among them honors for The View. She died in 2022.
