Annette Crosbie

Annette Crosbie is a Scottish actress who trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and, in 1956, joined Glasgow's Citizens' Theatre Company. She broke through in 1970 as Catherine of Aragon in the BBC serial The Six Wives of Henry VIII, winning the BAFTA TV Award for best actress in 1971, and took the same honor in 1976 for playing Queen Victoria in Edward the Seventh. In The Slipper and the Rose (1976) she played the fairy godmother, earning a BAFTA supporting nomination and the Evening Standard British Film Awards prize for best actress, and she voiced Galadriel in the animated The Lord of the Rings (1978). She is best known as Margaret Meldrew in the sitcom One Foot in the Grave. Her later films include Calendar Girls (2003), Into the Woods (2014), What We Did on Our Holiday (2014) and Dad's Army (2016). She was made an OBE in 1998 for services to drama.
