Ann Mitchell
Biography
Ann Mitchell is a British stage and television actress who was born in Stepney in 1939. She came to prominence in the 1980s as Dolly Rawlins in Lynda La Plante's crime series Widows and its sequels Widows 2 and She's Out, a role that brought her the 1984 Pye Award for her impact on television. Her stage work includes the Citizens' Theatre in Glasgow and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and she was nominated for an Evening Standard Award and a Laurence Olivier Award for playing Martha in Through the Leaves. She also wrote and directed, adapting Cathy Come Home for the stage and directing Barrie Keeffe's Sus for the Royal Court. On television she appeared in Z-Cars, Upstairs, Downstairs, and Hetty Feather, and in 2011 she joined EastEnders as Cora Cross, a role she later returned to.
