Plot summary
The red pill is a metaphor borrowed from The Matrix for an uncomfortable truth. For men's rights activists, that truth is that society is dominated by women and that men are oppressed within it. A feminist filmmaker spends a year filming the movement's leaders and followers, interviewing the founder of A Voice for Men, the president of the National Coalition for Men, the author of The Myth of Male Power and the woman who opened the first shelter for victims of domestic violence, along with critics such as a sociologist and an editor at Ms. magazine. The issues raised include male suicide rates, workplace fatalities, military conscription, services for men who are victims of domestic violence and rape, divorce and child custody, sentencing disparities, funding for men's health and homelessness.

- Melbourne's Palace Kino cinema canceled the film's Australian premiere after a petition that called it "misogynistic propaganda" gained 2,370 signatures; a counter-petition to reverse the decision drew close to 5,000 supporters.
- A University of Calgary screening planned by the Wildrose on Campus club was canceled after the club sent out an email with the subject line "Feminism is Cancer"; the club later apologized on Twitter and canceled the screening.
