Alex Winter
Biography
Alex Winter is a British-American actor and filmmaker who was born in London in 1965 and trained in dance as a child before spending his teen years on Broadway. He made his feature debut in Death Wish 3 (1985), played Marko in The Lost Boys (1987) and became internationally known as Bill S. Preston in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989), a part he reprised in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) and Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020). As a filmmaker he co-created the sketch show The Idiot Box, co-wrote, co-directed and starred in Freaked (1993), directed Ben 10 Alien Swarm (2009), and made documentaries including Deep Web and Zappa (2020), which earned a Critics Choice nomination. He produced, directed and appeared in Adulthood (2025), and returned to Broadway in a revival of Waiting for Godot.

First role
Winter started acting professionally at age ten. As a teenager he appeared on Broadway in The King and I with Yul Brynner, Peter Pan with Sandy Duncan, and Close of Play.
A first
In July 2015, Winter started a biographical documentary about Frank Zappa, and the Zappa Family Trust gave its public approval. Zappa came out on November 27, 2020, the first documentary allowed into his archives and the highest funded documentary in crowdfunding history, through Kickstarter.
