The school prom is close, and Dori Graham is going with her boyfriend Tommy Rogers. Her best friend Arabella has no date. After Tommy wins a talent contest, he appears on Alan Freed's rock and roll television show and persuades Freed to bring the whole show to the prom. Then Gloria Barker moves to town with her sights set on Tommy, and she announces she will wear a strapless evening gown in blue. Dori wants a strapless gown too, a thirty-dollar one at Miss Silky's.
