Plot summary
Paul Otto works as a lawyer, and his wife Jenny is an artist. They share a suburban house with Gene, their young son. The couple decide to let their housekeeper Agatha go, worried about her failing mind. As a parting gift, Agatha hands Gene an old doll called Robert. After she leaves, furniture turns up overturned, objects shift places and giggling can be heard at night in the house. Gene blames the doll and says it is alive. Jenny begins to credit him when the word "die" is found written on a mirror and one of her paintings is ruined. Paul thinks her fears stem from her past mental health troubles.
