When his grandmother dies, there is no one left in the Ukrainian village who can take care of the 9-year-old Roman. His mother Oksana (29) went to Germany two years ago to work as a nurse in the household of a senior couple. She sends money regularly, but has not seen her son since she left. Roman finally wants to live with his mom again. He travels after her, overcomes the border barriers to Europe and actually manages to get through to her. But Oksana is not alone. Roman finds her living with the widower of the lady she took care of. The old man's apartment becomes Roman's new home.
