Plot summary

Jonas Deichmann is an extreme athlete who holds several world records. His next project is the longest triathlon anyone has attempted: starting in Munich, going right around the globe and finishing in Munich. The route crosses eighteen countries over fourteen months, combining 460 kilometers of swimming, 21,000 kilometers of cycling and 5,000 kilometers of running. He begins in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Travel routes planned in advance become impassable, and border crossings that were once simple turn into complicated undertakings. People who meet him along the way find hope in his progress, and the phrase the Jonas effect comes into use.
