Plot summary

Amadeo is a novelist who has not been able to write, and he returns to Havana from sixteen years of exile in Madrid. His friends wait for him on a terrace above the Malecon Boulevard. Tania works as an eye doctor yet barely makes a living. Rafa was once a major artist; he drinks heavily now and paints only daubs. Aldo trained as an engineer and mounts batteries in a factory. Eddy, a lover of literature who has become a parvenu, joins them later. The group spends the night together, singing, dancing and recalling their younger years, the circle they once belonged to and the hopes they held for what lay ahead, and they also speak of the disappointments of their present lives.
