Plot summary
A year after a car crash, Sam Bloom cannot remember the last words his brother Dash spoke. Dash, a rock star, had come home to visit, and the crash happened with Sam at the wheel. Gordon Dunn, a scientific pioneer, has built a machine that records memories so that anyone can watch them afterward, and Sam wants his help. Before Sam can ask, Dunn is found dead. Sam sets out to learn who killed him, and he keeps using the memory device on himself, hoping to reach the night of the crash. He builds scale models of the people in the case and befriends Dunn's widow, Carolyn, without telling her who he is.
