Plot summary
In Hamilton, Ontario, Andy Hayes is a compulsive gambler who blames a curse and bad luck for his debts. Failing to catch a cab to a horse track, he is ordered into a car by Reuban, a contract killer. Reuban tells him the men he owes are angry that Andy brags about not paying. Andy owes C$68,000 and they want him dead. He has one hour to make peace. Andy's cat, Cleo, is in a crate on the back seat, and when Andy tries to leave with her, Reuban locks the doors. After a plea to get out of the car to urinate, Andy runs, slips on ice, and is hauled back into the car. He asks Reuban to take them to a prostitute's corner, saying she looks like Rosie Perez, and after that the two visit his grandmother.
