Plot summary
In 1850, Lilith Silver is cut down while trying to avenge her lover's death in a duel with Sir Sethane Blake. He shows her what he is and grants her eternal life as one of the undead. A century and a half on, she lives in the city and kills for hire, and her work puts her against the Illuminati, a secret Masonic sect whose members are taking over business and government. She wears black latex and keeps a coffin of weapons. The killings draw the police, and a Scotland Yard detective is put on her trail. The sect's leader is Sethane, the vampire who made her.
