Plot summary
In London, a film student named Sue McKinley finds the diary of her grandfather James, a British Army colonel who served in 1930s India and oversaw the execution of revolutionaries he privately admired. She travels to India to make a documentary about them. Her friend Sonia, a student of international studies in Delhi, introduces her to four friends who have finished at Delhi University but still spend their days on campus: Daljit "DJ" Singh, Karan Singhania, Sukhi Ram and Aslam Khan. They are cynical about politics and dismiss patriotic projects. Sue gives them the parts of Chandra Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Ashfaqulla Khan and Rajguru. Their rival, the right-wing student activist Laxman Pandey, takes the role of Ram Prasad Bismil.
