Plot summary
Janey, thirteen, is on vacation at the family beach house on the Mahurangi Peninsula with her younger brother Jim and her parents, Kate and Ed. Kate and Ed are close to divorce; they sit in the yard with whisky through the day and leave the children to fend for themselves. Janey's attention settles on Cady, a local boatie who is involved with Kate, and when she finds him photographing her mother aboard his boat, she persuades him to turn his camera on her. Ed turns to drink as well, leaving Jim largely on his own along the shore.

Its main location was Scandretts Bay beach in Scandrett Regional Park, filmed before conservation work there was completed.
