Plot summary
In 2018, Natalia and Sergei live in Sweden with their daughters Alina and Katja, having fled Russia after an attack that nearly killed Sergei. They wait for the Migration board to rule on their asylum case. They work, send the girls to Swedish school, learn the language, and submit to inspections, hoping to become Swedish citizens. When the application is rejected, Katja collapses and falls into a coma. Her condition is tied to resignation syndrome, a mysterious affliction affecting refugee children that worries doctors and politicians. Natalia and Sergei must find a way to help their daughter as their resilience is tested.
