Plot summary
Five fighter pilots, Vadim, Lyosha, Garik, Vanya and Misha, are stationed in Germany in the summer of 1945 and long to go home. Their unit is ordered to stay, and the men pass the time staging pretend flights in an old gazebo. Then Lyosha is sent to work at a military factory in Smolensk. Vadim asks him to marry Vadim's girlfriend Nastya Karpova in Vadim's name, using Vadim's documents. The other pilots hand Lyosha their papers and wedding rings as well, each wanting a bride brought back for him.
