Plot summary
Counterfeiter Lee Man is extradited from Thailand to Hong Kong, where Inspector Ho's police force is investigating murders and robberies tied to forged notes. An artist, Yuen Man, comes to bail him out, but Lee instead accepts witness protection and begins recounting how he fell in with the gang's chief, a figure known only as Painter. In the 1990s, he and Yuen Man lived together in Vancouver and could not sell their paintings. Her talent won recognition while his work was dismissed as imitation of the old masters, so he turned to forgery. Painter noticed that skill and brought him onto the team, which sets out to defeat the safeguards on the 1996 US hundred-dollar bill, and Lee's aim is to earn enough and return to Yuen.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Felix Chong obtained a real 7-ton currency press at a cost of HK$100,000, which could create realistic-looking counterfeit currency; the machine had to be reported to the Monetary Authority.
- Because the story centred on a counterfeit organisation and the printing of fake bills, Felix Chong's script originally described the printing process in eight steps, but he expanded it to twenty steps to make it more exciting for audiences.
