Plot summary
Strange, gray extraterrestrials abduct Sherry Burton on the night her child is conceived, or so she and her husband Craig come to remember. The pregnancy is happy news for the couple. Craig, an emergency room surgeon, begins having incidents of missing time that he cannot account for, and Sherry has chronic pain and unusual side effects as her pregnancy goes on. Their therapist, Dr. Susan Lamarche, gives them no satisfactory explanation, so Craig brings in a gynecology colleague, Dr. David Wetherly, to scan Sherry. Uneasiness turns to terror as the two become convinced an alien thing is growing inside her body.

- Jillian McWhirter got the role of Sherry Burton after several other actresses were considered and turned it down, balking at the nudity required and the traumatic events inflicted on the character. Producer Jack Murphy brought her the project during one of her stage performances, and she liked the range of emotions the part demanded.
- The scene in which Sherry is probed by a little tube coming out of the wall and penetrating her vagina was actress Jillian McWhirter's own idea.
- Screenwriter Aubrey Solomon said that the difficulty he and his wife had conceiving their second child played a large part in dictating the story.
