Plot summary
In Madrid, Caye spends her time off at Gloria's hair salon, where the regulars complain that immigrant prostitutes take clients from them. Caye works the same trade and her family has no idea. Her view shifts when she meets Zulema, a Dominican neighbor who lives in Spain without papers and sends money back to her mother and son. The two women grow close, shopping together and styling each other's hair. Caye takes Zulema to dinner at her mother's house. Zulema offers to teach sex education at a school, which lets her send her boy a toy truck for his birthday. Outside a club, Caye meets Manuel, a computer programmer; over beers she tells him she is a prostitute, and he laughs and does not believe her.
