Prayers for the Stolen (2021) on Netflix

Plot summary

Drug cartels terrorize San Miguel, Jalisco, a rural village where Ana, Paula and María are coming of age. In the harvest season, poppy fields give many villagers their work, and cartel violence leaves the village short of jobs, schools and medical care. Ana's father is among those who have left to find work. Cartel members regularly rape and kidnap women and children, so Rita, Ana's mother, digs a hole in the ground and teaches her daughter to hide in it. Rita and Ana walk to a hillside for cell service and call Ana's father; nobody answers.
