Plot summary
Chell regains consciousness inside a room with no recollection of her identity or how she ended up there. She finds a mark on the back of her neck; after breaking a mirror, she uses a shard to see it and finds a barcode. The discovery seems to trouble her. On the wall, a series of tally marks puzzles her. While a security camera watches, she exercises, eats meals left by guards, and spends long stretches trying to decode the marks. Hours or even days pass as she works at the puzzle, but she cannot yet make sense of it.
