Plot summary
Excerpts from four choreographic works by Pina Bausch are staged by the dancers of Tanztheater Wuppertal after her death in 2009. Le sacre du printemps places men and women on a stage covered in peat. Café Müller shows sleepwalkers stumbling among tables and chairs while a man clears the furniture. Kontakthof cuts between three generations of performers, company members, seniors and teenagers, who follow the same choreography at a dance in an auditorium. Vollmond takes place on a partly flooded stage with a large rock. Between these stage excerpts, dancers perform solos and duets in outdoor locations around Wuppertal, including near the Schwebebahn suspension railway. Voice-over stories and archive footage of Bausch speaking and dancing accompany the performances.

- Pina was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 84th Academy Awards and was Germany's entry for Best Foreign Language Film, shortlisted but not nominated; nominations in both categories would have made it the first film ever to do so.
