Midnight works the trade in the Bronx, and Mae is one of his girls until he makes her quit and settle down with him. He dies in his sleep of an overdose, and their daughter Wednesday, who learns the business from him as she grows up, takes on the care of Mae, now an addict, and of Nikki, her girlfriend. Cash is tight, so Nikki decides to turn tricks, calling it business, and the money changes their luck. Wednesday keeps hustling, holding to the plan of leaving the Bronx with Nikki and giving her girls a better life, all while looking after Mae.
