Plot summary
Saving is the whole of François Gautier's life: he has arranged his days around never spending anything, and that single purpose governs everything he does. Then, in one day, everything switches. He falls in love, and he learns that he has a daughter whose existence he never suspected. Hiding his stinginess from them means lying, and the lie is where his troubles start, because lying can turn out to be costly.
