Plot summary
Home for Liza Drake and her epileptic daughter Phoebe is a garage in Florida belonging to her sister, and her income comes from work as an exotic dancer. An argument over money ends that arrangement; they move into a motel, and after her car is repossessed she takes a sales job from Pete Brenner, a customer, at Zanna, a pharmaceutical start-up that is struggling to break into the market and scrambling for investors ahead of a planned public offering. Pete rewrites her resume to include a biochemistry degree, and the founder, Doctor Jack Neel, overrides the company's hiring freeze. Handed five days to land a physician who will prescribe Lonafen, the company's drug, she works through every prospect on her list.
